Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has paid tribute to the late banking magnate Herbert Wigwe, describing him as a towering figure whose impact was ‘larger than life.’

Speaking at a memorial event marking one year since Mr. Wigwe’s passing, Governor Sanwo-Olu joined dignitaries at the Eko Hotel in Lagos to honour the former Access Bank chief, who perished in a tragic air crash in the United States alongside his wife, Chizoba, and their son, Chizi.

Reflecting on the late banker’s legacy, the governor acknowledged his enduring influence on both Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole. He admitted to still finding it difficult to refer to the late businessman in the past tense.

Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted Mr Wigwe’s pivotal role in various sectors, from his support during the COVID-19 pandemic to his contributions to banking, arts, culture, and other areas of national development.
