Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has hailed Team Lagos for emerging overall winners of the ninth National Youth Games held in Asaba. The governor said the young athletes, their coaches, and the Lagos State Sports Commission had written history by showcasing the state’s sporting excellence.

Team Lagos topped the medal table with 110 medals, including 52 gold, 32 silver, and 26 bronze, ending the long-standing dominance of Team Delta, which had won every edition since the competition’s inception. Delta finished second with 37 gold, 38 silver, and 39 bronze, while Edo State placed third.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who praised the resilience and dedication of the athletes, announced plans to host the contingent in Lagos to celebrate their achievement. He described their performance as a landmark moment for the state, underlining Lagos’s growing stature in national sports development.
