Gunmen abduct five people, burn police station in Niger State 

Dynamite Explosion in Niger State Claims One Life, Six Injured

Gunmen have abducted at least five people and set fire to a police station in Agwara community, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State. The attack happened in the early hours of Sunday.

The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Minna by the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun. He said the attackers invaded the Agwara police station at about 3:40 am.

According to the police, tactical teams on duty engaged the assailants, but the attackers later overpowered the officers and used suspected dynamite to set the station ablaze. The gunmen then moved to the United Methodist Church in the community, where they burnt part of the church building.

Mr Abiodun said the attackers later went to other parts of the community and abducted five persons, whose identities are yet to be confirmed. He said security agencies have launched investigations and intensified efforts to track the perpetrators and rescue the abducted victims.
