Gunmen have abducted nine worshippers from Saint John’s Catholic Church in Ojije, Utonkon District of Ado Local Government Area in Benue State. The abduction happened on Sunday during a vigil on the church premises, according to local sources.
A former councillor representing Ukwuenyo Ward in Ado Local Government, Emmanuel Udah, confirmed the incident on Monday. He said the victims were taken while praying and described the attack as targeted, adding that residents of the area are traumatised and fear further attacks.

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the abduction. Its spokesperson, Udeme Edet, said the Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, has deployed tactical units working with local vigilantes to track down the gunmen and rescue the worshippers, adding that police are on the trail of the perpetrators.
