Gunmen Kill 10 People in Fresh Attacks on Plateau Communities

At least 10 people have been killed in a series of attacks on five communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The gunmen reportedly invaded Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai villages on Wednesday afternoon, destroying several houses in the process.

The latest violence comes just a week after another attack in Ruwi community, where 12 mourners were killed while gathered at the home of a deceased. In total, more than 22 residents have been reported dead in Bokkos LGA within the past seven days.

In a statement on Thursday, Farmasum Fuddang, chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC), accused the attackers of attempting to take over their land. He described the incidents as part of a campaign of “ethnic and religious cleansing” and called for residents to arm themselves in self-defence.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers, who were said to be speaking the Fulani dialect, launched coordinated assaults in broad daylight. Fuddang urged the government to strengthen security in the area, warning that residents could no longer rely solely on state protection.
