Gunmen Kill Father of Former Ebonyi Deputy Governor 

The traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike community in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Ezeogo Francis Igwe, has been killed by his kidnappers. The monarch was the father of the former Ebonyi State Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe.

Police say the royal father was abducted on March 1, 2026 while on his way to church in Ndufu-Alike, after gunmen on a motorcycle intercepted his vehicle and forced him away to an unknown location.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State, Joshua Ukandu, said the monarch was killed a day after his abduction despite efforts by security operatives to rescue him.

He added that two suspects were initially arrested and seven others later apprehended, while one armed suspect was killed during a gun battle with police as officers attempted to recover the victim’s remains.
