Seven people, including migrant workers and officials, have been killed in an attack by gunmen on a tunnel construction site in Indian-administered Kashmir, with at least five others injured. The incident occurred Sunday night in Gagangir, near Sonamarg, and is one of the worst civilian-targeted attacks in the region this year.
Police have attributed the incident to rebels fighting against Indian rule, describing it as a “terror attack.” According to officials, the attackers opened fire indiscriminately at workers who had just returned to their camp, resulting in two immediate deaths, while five others succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
The victims include five migrant workers, a local Kashmiri worker, and a doctor. Security forces have launched search operations in the area to apprehend the assailants.
