Hamas Proposes Long-Term Truce and Prisoner Swap in Talks with US Envoy

The United States’ special envoy for hostage affairs, Adam Boehler, has disclosed that Hamas has proposed a prisoner exchange alongside a truce lasting between five and ten years. Under the terms suggested by the group, it would reportedly lay down all weapons and withdraw from political activities.

Speaking to Israel’s Channel 11, Mr Boehler outlined the proposal and later reiterated elements of it in interviews with Israeli and American media. His comments follow reports of Israeli dissatisfaction over his unprecedented direct engagement with Hamas.  

He suggested that in a best-case scenario, Israeli hostages held in Gaza could be released within weeks.
