Hamas has begun redeploying its men across Gaza following the ceasefire that took effect on Friday. US President Donald Trump confirmed that the group had been granted temporary approval to police the war-torn enclave, saying it was an interim step to restore order.
Hamas officials said they would not permit a security vacuum and vowed to maintain public safety and protect property. The group has reportedly been confronting criminal gangs while reasserting its control in some areas.

Under Mr Trump’s proposed post-war plan, Gaza would eventually be administered by a Palestinian committee under international supervision, with a demilitarised security structure supported by a multinational stabilisation mission. Hamas has dismissed any suggestion of disarmament until a recognised Palestinian state is achieved.
