The Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria, IBAN, has urged the government to hold off on the collection of a 2.5% National Broadcasting Commission Levy on its members due to the financial hardship and critical state of the broadcast sector.
The call was made in a communique issued at the end of IBAN’s Emergency Extraordinary General Meeting which was held on Friday, August 30th, 2024. The meeting addressed the significant challenges currently facing the nation’s broadcast industry, as members renewed their commitment towards its revival and development.
The group resolved to seek an urgent meeting with the Honourable Minister for Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, and the Director-General of NBC, Charles Ebuebu, to address ongoing contentious issues, particularly the Digital Switch Over (DSO) and matters related to Set-Top Manufacturers.
