Hollywood actor and director Robert Redford has died at the age of 89. His family confirmed he passed away in his sleep early Tuesday morning at his home in Utah. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Redford rose to international fame in 1969 when he starred alongside Paul Newman in the Western ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’. He went on to enjoy a six-decade career, both as a leading man and later as an Oscar-winning director.

In 1985, Redford co-founded the Sundance Film Festival, which became a launchpad for independent filmmakers around the world. His work behind the camera earned him critical acclaim, including an Academy Award for Best Director.
Beyond film, Redford was known as a committed environmental activist, working to protect Utah’s natural landscapes. Born Charles Robert Redford Jr. in Santa Monica, California, he leaves behind a legacy as one of cinema’s most enduring figures.
