US martial artist and Hollywood action star Chuck Norris has died at the age of 86, his family has announced. In a statement shared on social media, the family said he passed away on Thursday after falling ill while on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
The family described him as a man who lived with faith, purpose and commitment to those close to him, adding that he inspired millions through his work, discipline and kindness.
Norris rose to global fame for his role in the television series Walker, Texas Ranger and appeared in several action films over the decades. His breakthrough came after a fight scene with martial arts legend Bruce Lee in the 1972 film ‘The Way of the Dragon’, which helped establish his screen reputation.

He marked his 86th birthday last week with a social media post showing him boxing, in which he joked that he was “levelling up”, before news of his death was confirmed by his family.
