The Kebbi State Government says the loud explosion reported at the General Hospital in Bagudo was caused by a fire outbreak and not a bomb blast. The clarification was given in a statement on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki.
According to the statement, preliminary findings by security agencies, as relayed by the Secretary to the State Government, showed that the explosion originated from a fire within the hospital staff quarters. The government said the incident was widely misrepresented on social media as a bomb attack.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed that no lives were lost, adding that all occupants of the affected building evacuated safely before the explosion. While a structure was damaged, authorities said the situation was quickly brought under control.
