The House of Representatives has urged the judiciary to ensure the swift dispensation of justice for victims of gender-based violence, arguing that delays in prosecution have contributed to the persistence of the crime.
The call was made through a motion sponsored by Awaji-Inombek Abiante and three other lawmakers, who expressed concern that the sluggish pace of justice delivery has emboldened perpetrators.

During the debate, legislators highlighted a series of cases involving women who had been murdered over the years, noting with dismay that justice had yet to be served in many instances.
To address the issue, the House advocated for the creation of specialised divisions within existing courts, with exclusive jurisdiction over homicide and related offences. Lawmakers believe such a measure would expedite trials, reduce case backlogs, and restore public confidence in the legal system.
