The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to take immediate diplomatic steps to ensure the safe return of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, currently in Guinea-Bissau following a recent coup. The motion was raised on Thursday during a plenary session initially focused on domestic issues, with Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and House Leader Julius Ihonvbere highlighting Jonathan’s presence in the country on an election-monitoring assignment.
Representative Ihonvbere noted Jonathan’s extensive experience monitoring elections across Africa and beyond, while Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda emphasised that national concern for the former president should extend to all Nigerians abroad.
