The House of Representatives has called on the federal government to intensify diphtheria vaccination efforts and raise awareness in schools across the country.
Lawmakers passed the resolution during Wednesday’s plenary after adopting a motion put forward by House spokesperson Akin Rotimi.

The call follows reports that several students at King’s College Lagos were hospitalized with the disease.
Diphtheria, a bacterial infection caused by the *Corynebacterium* species, affects the nose, throat, and sometimes the skin. Symptoms include fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose, red eyes, neck swelling, and breathing difficulties.
