The House of Representatives has dismissed reports by a minority caucus ad hoc committee reviewing Nigeria’s tax reform laws, describing the exercise as non-binding and informal. The minority caucus committee, chaired by Afam Ogene, an Anambra lawmaker, had claimed it discovered illegal alterations in the gazetted copies of the laws.
In a statement, the spokesperson of the House, Akin Rotimi, said only the House sitting in plenary or the Speaker has the authority to constitute an ad hoc committee with parliamentary status. He said any committee set up by a political caucus lacks institutional recognition and that any report produced cannot be presented or recognised by the House.

Rotimi recalled that in December 2025, the House constituted a bipartisan ad hoc committee following concerns over multiple versions of the tax laws. He said that the committee would submit its report through established procedures, adding that only the officially gazetted laws and certified true copies issued by the National Assembly remain valid legislative instruments.
