Human Rights Watch Accuses Israel of Genocide in Gaza; Israel Dismisses Report as 'Propaganda'

Human Rights Watch, HRW, has accused Israel of committing acts of genocide in Gaza, alleging deliberate actions to deprive Palestinian civilians of adequate access to water.

In a detailed 179-page report, HRW claims that Israeli forces intentionally targeted critical infrastructure, including solar panels powering treatment plants, a reservoir, and a warehouse for spare parts. The organisation also alleges that Israel has blocked the entry of fuel for generators and materials needed to repair essential systems.

The report further accuses Israel of cutting electricity supplies, attacking repair workers, and obstructing the delivery of repair equipment into Gaza.

Tirana Hassan, HRW’s Executive Director, described the alleged actions as a ‘calculated policy of deprivation’ leading to thousands of deaths from dehydration and disease. Ms Hassan characterised these actions as ‘nothing short of the crime against humanity of extermination and an act of genocide.’

Responding to the allegations in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Israel categorically rejected HRW’s findings, calling the report ‘propaganda’ and asserting that the truth is the complete opposite of what it calls, HRW’s lies.
