I Don't Care if Iran Attends 2026 World Cup, says Trump

US President Donald Trump has said he does not care whether Iran participates in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States. Iran was the first nation to qualify for the tournament but did not attend this week’s FIFA preparatory meeting in Atlanta.

Trump made the remarks to POLITICO, describing Iran as a “very badly defeated country” and saying it was “running on fumes.” His comments came amid growing questions over whether Iran will send a team or whether the US government will issue entry permits to Iranian officials.

The absence of the West Asian nation at the Atlanta meeting has sparked uncertainty over its participation in the World Cup this summer. Organisers had invited all qualifying countries to discuss logistics and security arrangements for the tournament.
