Traders at Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan have voiced frustration over the absence of a functional fire station, blaming it for the scale of destruction caused by Tuesday’s blaze.
The market, home to around 2,000 shops, was badly affected, with plastic goods traders among the worst hit. Many believe the damage could have been reduced if firefighting resources were readily available on-site.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande, extended sympathies to those affected and said officials at the market station had raised the alarm, prompting a response from the agency’s headquarters.
Addressing concerns over the unavailability of functional fire trucks, he noted that resources were limited and could not be stationed everywhere.
