The Ogun State office of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has been shut down as electricity workers in the region began an indefinite strike. The workers are protesting over the alleged non-implementation of the new minimum wage, failure to remit pension and cooperative deductions, and the disengagement of 17 staff members, among other welfare concerns.
In Abeokuta, staff gathered outside the premises while customers seeking to conduct business were turned away. The workers say they were left with no choice but to take action due to the management’s reluctance to address their grievances.

Abiodun Shobayo, Vice President of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) in the Lagos/Ogun Zone, expressed frustration with the IBEDC management, stating that their failure to engage in meaningful dialogue left workers no option but to resort to the strike.
The industrial action is expected to continue until the workers’ demands are addressed, further disrupting services for IBEDC customers in the region.
