The Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Lagos State Branch, Dr Victoria Adebola Kolawole, has welcomed journalists to a two-day media training on humanitarian reporting organised by the International Committee of the Red Cross at the Ibis Hotel in Lagos. She expressed appreciation to the ICRC for its continued support and for choosing Lagos to host the capacity-building programme.
Dr Kolawole said the training is timely and relevant to current humanitarian challenges, noting that the media plays a crucial role in shaping public understanding of conflicts, emergencies, and crises. She emphasised that responsible reporting requires accuracy, empathy, and a commitment to giving voice to vulnerable communities.
She explained that the initiative will deepen journalists’ knowledge of humanitarian principles, International Humanitarian Law, and the complexities of reporting in sensitive environments.

The Lagos Red Cross chairman reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting efforts that promote professionalism and ethical standards in humanitarian communication. She urged participating journalists to take full advantage of the training, noting that their work influences public narratives, policymaking, and the protection and dignity of affected populations.
