Renowned British actor Idris Elba has unveiled plans to relocate to Africa within the next decade, as part of his vision to support the continent’s growing film industry.

Speaking at a film industry event in Ghana, the 51 year old actor outlined his ambition to strengthen African cinema, highlighting upcoming projects, including the establishment of film studios in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and Accra, Ghana.

The actor, known for his roles in ‘Luther”’ and ‘The Wire,’ also hinted at his involvement in the forthcoming TV adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s classic novel ‘Things Fall Apart’, where he is set to portray the lead character, Okonkwo. The casting decision has sparked debate among Nigerians, with some expressing concerns over his portrayal of the iconic literary figure.

Elba, born in London to a Ghanaian mother and Sierra Leonean father, stressed the importance of reshaping global perceptions of Africa, focusing on correcting widespread misconceptions about the continent.
