The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has warned officers against meddling in land disputes and other civil matters that have no clear criminal elements. He said the Nigeria Police Force must not be seen as serving private interests, stressing that any officer found in breach would face disciplinary action.
Mr Egbetokun made the remarks in Abuja on Thursday, where he cautioned against officers escorting parties for land recovery or disrupting legal occupations. He said such conduct undermines the neutrality of the police and brings the force into disrepute.

The Police Chief also inaugurated a nationwide training programme on the new Criminal Database Systems, which he described as the backbone of modern, intelligence-led policing. The initiative, he said, is designed to replace poor record-keeping and fragmented intelligence with a centralised system that will improve case tracking and accountability.
According to the IGP, the database will integrate with international policing frameworks, including INTERPOL and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
