Ikorodu City players and officials were trapped inside the dressing room for hours after their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Shooting Stars in Ibadan on Sunday. The match ended in a goalless draw, but tensions flared when a section of Shooting Stars fans became unhappy with the result. In viral videos, some of the fans were seen throwing missiles at match officials and the away team.

Samuel Bamisebi, Ikorodu City’s director of media and communication, explained that the fans’ anger escalated to violence, damaging one of the buses used to transport Ikorodu City’s supporters. The players and officials were locked inside the stadium to protect them from the irate fans outside, leading to hours of confinement.
Bamisebi revealed that military personnel had intervened before the team was able to safely exit the Lekan Salami Stadium. Despite the tense situation, Ikorodu City is currently ranked sixth in the NPFL standings with 46 points, just two points behind Shooting Stars, who occupy fourth place.
