Former African Footballer of the Year, Victor Ikpeba, has backed Nigeria’s Super Eagles to defeat South Africa in their crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday. Nigeria moved to ten points in Group C after edging Rwanda 1-0 in Uyo, keeping their hopes alive despite the absence of injured striker Victor Osimhen.

Ikpeba argued that Nigeria held a long-standing psychological advantage over Bafana Bafana, recalling previous encounters where South Africa impressed but faltered at key moments. He suggested that history shows a recurring pattern in decisive clashes between the two nations.
While acknowledging South Africa’s quality under coach Hugo Broos, Ikpeba maintained that the pressure lies with Bafana Bafana. He urged the Super Eagles to capitalise on their opponents’ mistakes, stressing that Nigeria had both the experience and resilience required to secure victory in Bloemfontein.
