The Imo State Police Command has dismissed social media allegations accusing its Anti-Kidnapping Unit, known as Tiger Base, of torture, organ trafficking, and extrajudicial killings. A viral video had claimed that detainees were subjected to severe human rights abuses.
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye described the allegations as false and intended to mislead the public. He stressed that Tiger Base is a legitimate tactical formation mandated to fight kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and other violent crimes—not an illegal detention facility.
Okoye highlighted the unit’s achievements, noting that it has dismantled several criminal syndicates and contributed to improved security across the state. He said the claims were part of a smear campaign by criminal elements threatened by ongoing police operations.
