Imo State Police Arrest Catholic Priest Over New Year's Eve Shooting

The Imo State Police Command has announced the arrest of a Catholic priest, Father Joseph Enyinaya, in connection with the tragic shooting of a young boy within the premises of St. Columbus Catholic Church, Amaimo, in Ikeduru Local Government Area.  

The incident occurred on December 31, during New Year’s Eve celebrations, when the boy set off fireworks inside the church. Father Enyinaya is alleged to have fatally shot the victim in response to the disturbance.  

According to the state’s police spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, the priest was taken into custody on Thursday. Authorities have since launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, the boy’s body has been transferred to a morgue in the nearby Atta Ikeduru community. The police have assured the public of a thorough inquiry to ensure justice is served.
