Imran Jino Threatens to Sue Federal Government Over Power Outage in the North

A former governorship candidate under the Peoples’ Redemption Party platform in Katsina State, Imran Jino has threatened to take legal action against the federal government over the lingering power outage in Northern Nigeria.

He made the assertion while speaking to Radio Now’s Buhari Abubakar in Katsina.

He said, “out of need or the current situation that we find ourselves in the north due to the power outage, prolonged power outage. I’m wishing to spearhead a protest, not a street protest, rather an intellectual and legal protest against this power outage. I wish to mobilize the people of the north, particularly the youth and households, to be able to drive home our demand of compensation.
This is what we are pushing now. There is a hashtag now called TCN Reconnect the North. Save lives.”

Mr. Jino raised concerns about the sufferings of the people in the North and the implications of the continued outage.

He continued, “our concern is the damages now that it is creating, you know, how much it is hampering our local businesses, a loss of lives in the hospitals and properties. So many businesses are out now and so many people will never bounce back on their feet. So no matter what it is, all the effort that they are making is not tantamount to the losses or the damages it has caused.”

He shares insights on how he intends to gain support for the movement to ensure the achievement of his aim.

“Communication has been made very easy using the social media and the internet. We are going to dwell so much on the social media, mobilizing bloggers from the north, and any other Nigerian who feels that, okay, this is something terrible, if it happens in the northern part, northeastern and some central states, north central states, it may happen in the southwest as well as the south. So we will dwell on the social media as well as the mainstream media.
That is what I’m talking to you now. I’ve been talking to mass media as well, all the mass media, and like yesterday I had a chat with the correspondent chapel of Kasena branch, and the news has gone so far, and we will continue this fight that I hope we will be able to get to our results,” he added.
