The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has dissociated itself from the recent declaration of the “United States of Biafra” by supporters of Simon Ekpa in Finland. Ekpa, a self-proclaimed leader of the separatist group and a dual citizen of Nigeria and Finland, is known for promoting the Monday sit-at-home order in Nigeria’s South-East.
Emma Powerful, IPOB’s spokesperson, described the declaration as a scam and accused those involved of sponsoring insecurity in the South-East. In a statement issued on Sunday, he alleged that the act was an attempt to destabilise the region, divide its people, and tarnish the reputation of the genuine Biafra struggle.

Emma Powerful urged IPOB members and the public to disregard the declaration, calling it a “shambolic event” orchestrated to mislead Biafrans. He added that the move was designed to make the Biafra struggle unattractive while serving the interests of its perpetrators.
