The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Oru West LGA of Imo state has been attacked by unidentified arsonists. According to Festus Okoye, INEC Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, the resident electoral commissioner (REC) for Imo reported that the office was attacked at about 4.00 am yesterday.
Mr. Okoye says critical facilities were not destroyed but the office furniture and fittings in the conference room were affected by the blaze. The burning down of the Oru office is the seventh in a series of attacks on INEC facilities in five states.
INEC has expressed its concern about the impact of the attacks on the conduct of elections and electoral activities in general.
