The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has proposed a review of the Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) as the sole means of voter accreditation for the 2027 general elections. INEC also aims to implement reforms to enhance the country’s electoral system, drawing from lessons learned during the 2023 general election and subsequent off-cycle polls.
During a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, suggested that computer-generated slips, even those downloaded from the Commission’s website, could serve as sufficient means of voter accreditation.

Yakubu also revealed that INEC will soon present its legislative proposals to the relevant committees in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. He emphasised the Commission’s goal to address long-standing challenges and modernise election management.
