INEC Says Underage Voters Discovered During 2023 General Elections To Be Arrested

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says visibly underage persons who attempt to vote during the coming general elections will be arrested.

According to Festus Okoye, INEC Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, in a bid to tackle the issue, the Commission has summoned all its officers to areas where underage registrations were recorded.

Mr. Okoye says parents of underaged voters will also be arrested for aiding and abetting. He also said the clean-up of the voter register is ongoing and the official register, which hovers at around 93.5 million voters, will be published on January 16.
