INEC Schedules Supplementary Poll in Zamfara

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed August 21 for a supplementary election in Zamfara State after declaring last week’s bye-election in Kaura Namoda South constituency inconclusive.

The poll will be conducted in five affected units across Kyambarawa and Sakajiki wards, where results were cancelled over alleged irregularities. According to INEC officials, more than 5,400 voters are registered in those areas, with 3,265 permanent voter cards already collected.

Results released before the cancellations showed the All Progressives Congress leading with 7,001 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party had 5,339 — a margin smaller than the number of collected cards.

Citing provisions of the Electoral Act, INEC said it had no option but to reschedule the exercise. Stakeholders in Gusau have been urged to ensure peaceful participation when voters return to the polls on August 21.
