The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it is set to introduce an online portal to streamline the registration of political associations seeking party status.
In a statement on Thursday, the electoral body confirmed it had now received 129 applications—seven of them in the past week alone.
Mr. Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, said the new portal will form part of the commission’s Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System, PFRAS, replacing the previous manual process.

Final testing of the portal is expected to conclude within a week, after which eligible associations will be guided through the next steps.
INEC has also published the full list of applicants on its website, promising clear guidelines once the digital application phase begins.
