Information Minister Says No Plan to Unlawfully Arrest or Prosecute Opposition

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, says the federal government has no intention of unlawfully arresting or prosecuting opposition political figures. Idris spoke during a press briefing in Abuja, addressing concerns about the treatment of critics of the administration.

The minister said the government is committed to upholding the rule of law and that no directive has been issued to detain or prosecute political opponents without due process. He emphasised that democratic principles must guide interactions between the government and all political actors.

Idris was responding to questions from journalists about reports suggesting that opposition leaders might face state action. He described the reports as speculative and unsubstantiated.
