Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ini Edo has responded to criticism from the Christian Association of Nigeria over the title of her film, ‘A Very Dirty Christmas’. CAN had described the title as offensive and a mockery of the Christian faith, and asked the National Film and Video Censors Board to explain how it was approved for release during the festive season.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Ini Edo said the title was a creative choice intended to provoke thought and conversation. She said art often reflects the complexity of human life and is not designed to demean religious beliefs.
The actress said the film received all required approvals from the National Film and Video Censors Board and the Nigerian Copyright Commission before its release. Describing herself as a devout Christian, she said she would not knowingly be involved in any work that disrespects Christianity or the meaning of Christmas.

The National Film and Video Censors Board confirmed that it has opened discussions with the film’s producers over a possible modification of the title. The board said the film passed through its standard censorship and classification process, adding that the approval did not amount to an endorsement of any attempt to trivialise Christian faith or Christmas.
