Insecurity As Reason For Monday Sit-At-Home Delusional, Says Gov. Soludo

The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has described as delusional claims by some traders at the Onitsha Main Market that insecurity is the reason they do not open their shops on Mondays. He said the stay-at-home order ended in the state in 2023 and described the continued closure of shops as economic sabotage.

Speaking during a broadcast on Wednesday, the governor said the market has a significant security presence and questioned why traders could engage in other activities on Mondays but refuse to open their shops. He insisted that insecurity could not be used to justify the continued shutdown of the major commercial hub.

Earlier this week, Governor Soludo ordered the closure of the Onitsha Main Market for one week over traders’ compliance with the Monday sit-at-home directive imposed by non-state actors. He warned that the closure could be extended and said the state government could revoke shop ownership if traders fail to comply with the requirement to open six days a week
