The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has said that international customers owe $5.7 million for electricity supplied during the third quarter of 2024.
The customers in question include Paras-SBEE and Transcorp-SBEE from the Benin Republic, Mainstream-NIGELEC from Niger, and Odukpani-CEET from Togo. These transactions are conducted under an international treaty that allows Nigeria to export electricity to neighbouring countries such as Benin, Togo, and Niger.

According to NERC’s latest quarterly report, market operators issued invoices totalling $12.19 million to six international firms. However, only $6.49 million has been paid, leaving a significant shortfall.
Efforts to address the outstanding payments are ongoing, as Nigeria continues to balance its role as a regional power supplier with the challenges of domestic electricity demands.
