More than 100 doctors and nurses from around the world have accused Israel of systematically targeting Palestinian medical workers in Gaza.
In an open letter, organised by UK emergency physician Dr James Smith, the group said over 1,500 Palestinian healthcare staff had been killed by May, with others abducted, detained, or tortured. Hospitals and clinics, they warned, were under constant attack, forcing surgery without anaesthesia and treatment of infections without antibiotics due to shortages from Israel’s blockade.

The signatories demanded an immediate end to strikes on medical sites, the release of detained staff, lifting of the blockade, unrestricted humanitarian access, and a permanent ceasefire. They described the situation as a “deliberate assault” on those risking their lives to save others.
