IPMAN Boss Denies Importing Fuel, Calls for Direct Purchase from Dangote Refinery

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) says its members are unable to load petrol from the Dangote Refinery in Lagos despite paying ₦40 billion to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Speaking on a TV program monitored by Radio Now’s news desk on Wednesday, IPMAN President Abubakar Garima expressed surprise over claims by Aliko Dangote that marketers were boycotting his refinery to purchase imported petrol.

Speaking on the matter he said, “40 billion Naira outstanding with the NNPC to load product. And my marketers are always looking the way they can get this product direct. So I’m very surprised when I heard Dangote say he has over 500 million liters of PMS.
And we independent petroleum marketers, if he can be able to sell this product to us direct, definitely we are ready to buy the product. Because we have to pay before we pick. Presently, just like what I have said, we have over 40 billion Naira under the NNPCL custody.
We cannot be able to source this product.”

Garima clarified that IPMAN members are not importing petrol, contradicting Dangote’s assertions. He urged Dangote to register independent petrol marketers directly, ensuring smoother access to products from his refinery, rather than relying on the NNPCL.

“And just of recent, there are some of my marketers, independent petroleum marketers, that NNPC sent to go and load in Dangote refinery. I’m telling you, those marketers, they stay with their trucks over four days. They cannot be able to load.
So there are so many challenges. Well, in fact, I didn’t know the reason, and that is the reason why we have been contacting Dangote management to allow those to start taking this product direct, so that we know immediately when we pay the products, we can be able to pick this product. If Dangote is having this 500 million liters on the stock, we tell Dangote, we are ready to buy this product that I have said,” said Garima.
