A medical panel led by the President of the Nigerian Medical Association has concluded that the ailment complained of by the Indigenous People of Biafra leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is not life-threatening. The report was ordered by Justice James Omotosho to determine Kanu’s health status following conflicting medical claims from both the prosecution and defence.
In its report submitted on October 13 by the prosecution team led by Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), the panel confirmed that Kanu was fit to stand trial. The findings were read in open court during Thursday’s proceedings, and no objection was raised by either party.

Justice Omotosho ruled that the defendant could proceed with the trial and granted Kanu six consecutive days, starting October 23, to open and close his defence. The judge also approved an oral request by Kanu’s counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), for a private consultation with his client outside the Department of State Services facility.
The court directed that the private meeting be held in the courtroom between 9 a.m. and noon on October 22, with only Kanu and his legal team present. The trial is scheduled to resume the following day.
