Iran Ready for New Conflict with Israel, Says President Pezeshkian

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian says his country is fully prepared for any renewed military confrontation with Israel, as he questioned the durability of the current ceasefire. He made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera, one of his first since the end of last month’s 12-day war.

Pezeshkian warned that Iranian forces are capable of striking deep into Israeli territory again if provoked. The president said Tehran is not optimistic the truce, which took effect on 24 June, will hold for long. He accused Israel of trying to dismantle Iran’s military and nuclear leadership, but insisted it had failed.

The conflict saw the United States intervene on Israel’s behalf, reportedly targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities. Western powers have since renewed diplomatic efforts over Iran’s nuclear programme, which Tehran maintains is solely for peaceful purposes.

More than 900 people, mostly civilians, were killed in Iran, while at least 28 people died in Israel during the fighting. Pezeshkian confirmed Iran remains committed to its nuclear development, despite ongoing tensions with the West.
