Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Saeed Khatibzadeh, has reiterated that Tehran is not pursuing nuclear weapons and remains committed to reaching a peaceful agreement with the United States. Speaking at the Abu Dhabi Strategic Forum, he emphasized that Iran’s nuclear programme is entirely peaceful and rooted in national technological capabilities.
Khatibzadeh criticized Washington for sending ‘contradictory messages’ through third-party channels and insisted any agreement must respect directives from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The statements come amid a diplomatic stalemate following mid-June Israeli attacks that disrupted indirect Iran-US negotiations mediated by Oman, resulting in over 1,000 Iranian casualties.
