The Israeli military says it carried out an assassination attempt against Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital, Doha. Explosions were heard in the city on Tuesday in what Israel described as a “targeted attack” coordinated with the Shin Bet intelligence service.
It is the first known Israeli strike in Qatar, which has been a key mediator in ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas and also hosts the United States’ largest military base in the region, Al Udeid Air Base.

A Hamas source told Al Jazeera the attack targeted its negotiating team as they met to discuss a US ceasefire proposal. Israel said precision weapons were used in an effort to minimise civilian casualties.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed the operation, describing it as a wholly independent Israeli action aimed at the top leadership of Hamas.
