Israel Launches Fresh Strikes on Tehran as Tensions Escalate

Israel says it has launched a new wave of air strikes on the Iranian capital, Tehran. The attacks came hours after a statement attributed to Iran’s new Supreme Leader was broadcast on state television, marking his first public message since assuming power.

The statement reportedly reaffirmed Iran’s position on restricting access through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes. The new leader has not appeared in public since succeeding his father, leading to speculation about his condition.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Refugee Agency says about 3.2 million people have been displaced within Iran since Israeli and United States strikes began on February 28. Reports also indicate that several cargo ships have been attacked in the Gulf during the escalating conflict.

In related developments, a military base in Erbil in northern Iraq that houses United States and British troops came under drone attack overnight. Defence officials say two drones were shot down and no major injuries were reported among the troops stationed at the base.
