Israeli Ceasefire Violations Threaten Gaza Truce, Qatari PM Warns

Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has warned that repeated Israeli violations of the Gaza ceasefire are putting the entire agreement at risk. Speaking in Washington after talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, he called for the immediate start of the second phase of the truce and unconditional delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave.

Since the ceasefire began on October 10, Israeli forces have breached the agreement at least 738 times, killing 394 Palestinians and wounding more than 1,000. The violations have included the assassination of senior Hamas commander Raed Saad in Gaza City, which drew a sharp response from the White House.

The humanitarian situation is worsening as winter storms strike Gaza. Aid delivery remains limited, with only 39 percent of allocated trucks reaching the territory, leaving thousands of Palestinians in makeshift shelters or bombed-out buildings. Two infants have died from severe hypothermia this week, raising the winter death toll to 13.

Hamas has called on US mediators to hold Israel accountable and ensure compliance with the ceasefire, while Israel has defended its actions, insisting that Hamas violated the agreement by attempting to rearm. The second phase of the ceasefire envisions Hamas disarming and the deployment of an international stabilisation force, issues that remain contentious.
