Israeli Forces Tighten West Bank Movement Restrictions

Israeli forces have intensified restrictions on movement across parts of the occupied West Bank, particularly in areas west of Ramallah. According to the Wafa news agency, gates at the entrances to Ni’lin, Shuqba and Deir Ammar were shut, preventing residents from crossing, while access was further curtailed in at least 10 neighbouring towns and villages.

The measures, involving roadblocks, concrete barriers and military gates, have caused long delays and disrupted daily life. Reports also link the restrictions with an increase in settler attacks, heightening pressure on Palestinians to leave their land.

Wafa noted that Israel now operates nearly 900 checkpoints and gates across the territory, with more than 160 installed since October 2023. The latest clampdown comes as Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, threaten annexation following moves by the UK, Canada and Australia to recognise a Palestinian state.
