Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu Vows Swift Gaza Offensive Despite UN, European Warnings

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says a new Gaza offensive will begin “fairly quickly” to defeat Hamas and secure the release of hostages.

The plan, approved by his security cabinet, targets two remaining Hamas strongholds in Gaza City, which would be cleared to create “safe zones” for civilians. Palestinians say such zones have not shielded them from Israeli fire.

European envoys at the UN warned the operation would deepen Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, already marked by famine and malnutrition. Israel denies restricting aid, blaming Hamas for the shortages.

Its military chief has cautioned against occupying the Strip, citing hostage safety and the risk of prolonged guerrilla warfare.

Netanyahu insists Israel seeks only a security buffer, not occupation. Washington has backed Israel’s stance while pledging to work jointly on boosting humanitarian aid into the enclave.
