Israel has carried out fresh strikes across the Gaza Strip, a little over a month after a fragile US-brokered truce came into force. The Israeli military said the operations followed what it described as a ceasefire breach, claiming Hamas fighters opened fire on troops operating in the south of the enclave.
Casualty figures varied widely as reports emerged. Gaza’s civil defence agency told AFP that 22 people had been killed, with twelve deaths near Gaza City and ten in Khan Younis. The northern area, once the territory’s most densely populated centre before the 2023 war, was among the hardest hit.

Reuters, quoting health officials, reported a lower toll of ten, underscoring continuing challenges in verifying information from the conflict zone.
